(Reuters) Nyeri, Kenya – 17 students were killed, and 14 were hurt when a terrible fire broke out at Hill side Endarasha Academy in the middle of Kenya. Authorities are still trying to figure out what caused the horrific fire that happened on Friday. The people who died were burned so badly that no one could recognize them, according to Resile Onyango, a police spokesperson. Rescue teams are still on the scene.
The school fire began early in the morning and quickly spread throughout the building. To find any surviving kids, rescue workers are doing their best to search the area. More rescues were on their way, Onyango told Hot 96 FM.
The principal, Onyango, said, “We lost 17 students in this fire and 14 were hurt.” “Right now our team is there.”
The fire did a lot of damage to the building, which made it hard to identify the dead, according to local media. That the kids had been burned so badly that Citizen Television couldn’t recognize them made the situation even more tragic.
In September 2017, nine children died in a fire at a school in Nairobi, which makes me think of this event. While the authorities haven’t said anything else about what started the fire yet, a full review is likely to happen soon.
People all over the country are asking for better safety measures in schools to prevent these tragedies from happening again.
