São Paulo Plane Crash: 62 Lives Lost in Tragic Accident

Search and Recovery Efforts
Authorities have confirmed the recovery of 21 remains from the crash site. The ATR 72-500 aircraft carried 57 passengers and four crew members on a flight from Cascavel to Guarulhos Airport in São Paulo. An additional passenger was later confirmed, bringing the total to 62. Identification of the victims is ongoing, with efforts being made through seat arrangements, personal belongings, and other records. The remains have been transported to a police mortuary in São Paulo.
Crash in Residential Area: No Ground Injuries
The crash occurred in a residential neighbourhood, fortunately causing no injuries on the ground. Only one house in a nearby condominium complex was destroyed. Resident Luiz Augusto de Oliveira recounted how he and his family witnessed the aircraft exploding in their backyard. Despite the material damage, they were unharmed. Another resident, Nathalie Cicari, described hearing a loud noise and seeing the plane spinning out of control.
Investigation Underway: Cause Still Unknown
There is still no clear explanation for the accident. The aircraft, Flight 2283, sent its last transmission about twenty minutes before its scheduled landing. It was reported to be in good condition, with all certifications and licenses up to date. The French-Italian manufacturer ATR has pledged to assist in the investigation. Authorities have recovered the flight recorders, which will play a key role in uncovering what led to this tragic accident.
National Mourning and Condolences
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil sent his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and called for a moment of silence. The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, has declared three days of mourning across the state as the nation grips with this tragedy.
This crash is the largest air disaster in Brazil since 2007 when a TAM Express plane crash claimed 199 lives. The entire country is mourning the loss of those who perished in this latest tragedy.
