The Palestinian Football Association (PFA) wants Israel to be banned from international football, but FIFA has again put off deciding on the matter. As the war in Gaza continues, the delay comes at a time when the PFA says Israel is breaking many laws very badly.
For some reason, FIFA changed its mind and will now consider the PFA’s suggestion on August 31 instead of July 12. These days, FIFA said it would consider it in October. According to FIFA, the PFA’s plan has been legally evaluated. The FIFA Council will review it at its next meeting.
Within its plan, which it sent to FIFA in May, the PFA asked them to “appropriately sanction” all Israeli teams, including the national team and clubs. The Professional Football Association (PFA) says that the Israel Football Association (IFA) and the Israeli government are both breaking international law by discriminating against Arab players and letting teams from Palestinian areas play in Israeli leagues.
The Palestinian Football Association also talked about how terrible the war in Gaza was for PA football. It said that at least 92 Palestinian football players had been killed, that local football leagues had been shut down, and that the national team had to play World Cup matches in other countries.
The IFA has strongly denied any crime, even though there are harsh accusations. Unfortunately, FIFA has not given any more information about the legal review or the exact date of the meeting in October.
Considering how bad things are in Gaza, the result of this choice could have a big impact on sports around the world.
