Russian officials say that Iran sent a big load of ballistic weapons to Russia to help them fight the war in Ukraine. According to officials from the West, this package has hundreds of short-range ballistic weapons in it. Russia thinks that Tehran will keep sending weapons to Moscow over the next few months.
The US government has confirmed the delivery. An unknown source told The Wall Street Journal that the weapons “have finally been delivered.” With supplies running low because of ongoing sanctions, these weapons are supposed to help Russia’s defense.
Russian and Iranian military cooperation is growing, as shown by the latest supply. Recently, Russia has bought weapons from North Korea and Iran, including drones and other types of ammo. Russians can’t restock their arsenals because of sanctions, so they are turning to their friends for more war goods.
After this event, Washington and the European Union are planning to add new measures against Iran. Iran is being punished with these penalties for helping Russia win the war in Ukraine.
Beyond telling its partners about the missile shipment, the US may take more steps to limit Iran’s growing involvement in the war. Even though Russia is trying to get around international limits, the bond between Moscow and Tehran is getting stronger.
Another important event in the current war, this rocket launch shows how international the fight is. Meanwhile, worries grow about the war getting worse as both sides look for new ways to win on the ground.
