The European Union (EU) has revealed that Iran sent nuclear weapons to Russia, which could have bad effects. Peter Stano, a spokesman for the EU’s foreign affairs, said this on Tuesday, saying that the move makes the conflict between Russia and Ukraine worse. The EU has said that acts like these will lead to a strong reaction.
As asked by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the EU’s diplomacy service has already put together a list of actions to take against Iran. But all 27 EU member states must agree to these steps before they can be put into place. At the moment, people are talking about what to do next.
Stano made it clear that sending nuclear weapons is against the UN Charter, international law, and humanitarian law. He said that it was possible that the rockets would help Russia’s bombing operation against Ukrainian towns, which would kill more civilians and damage more property.
Borrell had already told Iranian officials what would happen if they made this choice. Even though they were warned, Iran went ahead with the delivery, which made things worse.
The EU is still determined to take strong action against Iran for supporting Russia’s strikes on Ukraine. Stano said again that these kinds of actions would not be accepted, and the EU would move quickly to stop this worsening of the situation.
