Residential areas in northwest Gaza have been told to leave again by the Israeli forces. This is happening because Palestinian terrorists fired rockets at the Israeli town of Ashkelon. After the sounds of the air raid sirens the day, the military reacted on Monday. According to Israel, they blocked one rocket, and one fell into the sea.
Within a larger plan that began in the first few weeks of the war, the evacuation orders are an important part. Responding to Hamas’s attack on October 7, Israel evacuated northern Gaza, where heavy air and ground operations have destroyed a lot of property. Although most people fled to the south, up to 300,000 civilians are still in the north, where Israeli troops have mostly cut them off.
Ninety per cent of Gaza’s 2.3 million people have been forced to leave their homes during the 11-month war. There have been repeated moves of many people, who often end up in packed tent camps along the coast. Public services in these camps are very limited, which makes things even harder for the people who have been forced to move.
President Biden’s Efforts to Stop the Fighting
Earlier, President Joe Biden was supposed to meet with his top advisors to talk about the ongoing efforts to get Israel and Hamas to stop fighting. Earlier, U.S. officials met with Egyptian and Qatari advisers who are trying to bring about peace.
An important source of stress in the talks is Hamas’s demand that more prisoners be freed in return for hostages. When six hostages were killed last week, the situation got even more difficult, and Israel refused Hamas’ requests. Meanwhile, the U.S. is hopeful that Qatar can persuade Hamas to change its mind.
West Bank funeral for Turkish-American activist
People visited the funeral in the West Bank of Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, a Turkish-American activist who was killed by Israeli troops. Her body was taken through Nablus’s streets while a Palestinian flag was wrapped around it. According to a witness, Israeli forces shot her in the head during a calm time after a fight between soldiers and Palestinian marchers.
The Israeli forces described the victim as someone who encourages violent behaviour. In the West Bank, violence has increased since the war started. Both Palestinian terrorists and Israeli settlers are attacking and raiding more often.
Israeli attacks in Syria kill people.
Fourteen people have died in Syria because of Israeli bombings recently. The attacks happened in central Syria and hurt more than 40 people. According to Syrian state media, Israeli troops hit several places, destroying roads and starting fires.
Multiple news sources say the attacks were aimed at a science research centre where Iranian forces were reportedly making weapons. A U.K.-based war watchdog called the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that these rebels were at the places that were struck.
