There are protests in Israel over hostages.
Again, a lot of people gathered in Israel to protest how slowly the government was working to get the prisoners back from Gaza. Over a dozen people were killed overnight by Israeli bombings in the Gaza Strip, which led to the protests. As the air raids went on, health workers in Gaza said that the number of deaths was going up.
A Campaign to Vaccinate Against Polio During Conflict
Even though fighting continues, health workers in Gaza have finished the second part of a very important polio vaccine program. The program began when the first case of polio in 25 years was found in Gaza. To prevent a broad outbreak, the government plans to protect 640,000 children. The third part will be in the northern part of Gaza.
Airstrikes in the middle of Gaza
Several places in central Gaza were hit by Israeli bombs, killing many people. A hospital in Nuseirat called Al-Awda said that two bombs killed nine people. Four people were killed, and at least ten others were hurt when the attacks happened in private homes. Five people were killed in a house in western Nuseirat by another attack.
Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in nearby Bureij said that a bomb hit their home and killed a woman and her two children.
People were killed in northern Gaza.
At least 24 people were hurt when an airplane crashed into a school that had been turned into a shelter in northern Gaza. Four people were killed. Officials from the Israeli military said that the attack was aimed at a Hamas command post that was hidden inside the old school.
It’s still a war.
On October 7, Hamas and other terrorist groups struck Israel, killing about 1,200 people. This was the start of the war. Since then, Israel has started a war operation in Gaza to get back at them. The Israeli government thinks that Hamas still has more than 100 hostages and that about a third of them are dead. Their Health Ministry says that more than 40,000 Palestinians have died in the fighting.
More violence in the West Bank
There is more violence in the occupied West Bank, and Israeli troops are raiding Jenin. According to a local, “They besieged the area and brought in bulldozers, destroying everything.” A recent raid killed a lot of people.
An American protester was shot.
In a different event, Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, an American protester, was shot and killed in the West Bank. She had been speaking out against the building of Israeli communities. Her family has asked the U.S. government to do its probe because they think the Israeli investigation is not enough. The White House said they were worried and asked for a full investigation.
More and more people want a cease-fire.
There is more and more demand from around the world for Israel and Hamas to stop fighting. On the other hand, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants Israel to keep control of the Philadelphi passage, which is a key area on the border between Egypt and Gaza. The talks have stopped because Hamas says Israel is making new requests.
Fights in Lebanon with Hezbollah
Israeli troops and Hezbollah are still fighting in southern Lebanon. An Israeli drone hit killed three volunteers from a Lebanese Civil Defense team. Lebanon fired rockets at northern Israel, but they missed their mark and landed in open areas, where no one was hurt.
