Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s KP Chief Minister’s Direct Talks Plan with Afghanistan needs to be supported by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif. Asif called it an “attack on the federation” and a threat to the country’s union.
Asif made it clear in his speech to the National Assembly that no area can trade with other countries on its own. He warned them that actions like these could be very bad for the state and the government.
He said, “This is a dangerous path that KP’s leadership is taking.” Besides that, he said that the central government is the only one that can decide on foreign policy. Involvement from the provinces could lead to chaos and be bad for the country as a whole.
Asif also thought about times in the past when the government had been mean to people. He said that important people like Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz were having trouble when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was in power. The defence minister said the old government was too strict, and he brought up the fact that intelligence services were watching speaker Asad Qaiser’s home while they talked.
In his last words, Asif asked the current assembly to follow the lead set by Ayaz Sadiq and other past leaders of the National Assembly. He wished that things were more open and free again.
Before, Chief Minister Gandapur said he would send some people to Kabul to talk to the Afghan Taliban. He wants to speak to them about how violent things are getting in KP and ask for their help to make things calm down again.
When Gandapur spoke at KP House, he said that the military’s strategies have not been working. He was mad that things weren’t getting better even though he had already brought it up.
Gandapur brought up that people from KP and Afghanistan live next to each other on a 1.200 km line. He talked about how scared he was that crime was going up and people didn’t trust the cops.
