The Kremlin turned down Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s plan to end the war with Russia on Wednesday. Dmitry Peskov, a Kremlin spokesman, made it clear that Russia would keep up its “special military operation” in Ukraine. Peskov’s statement was in response to what Zelenskyy had said recently about his plan.
Details of Zelenskyy’s Plan
Zelenskyy laid out a plan on Tuesday that includes:
- A recent Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s Kursk region
- Steps on economic and diplomatic fronts
Zelenskyy has made it sound like he plans to use long-range U.S. weapons to attack Russia from deep inside the country. He wants to put pressure on Moscow to end the war.
Kremlin’s Answer
In response, Peskov said:
- Russia is aware of Ukraine’s plans
- Russia will continue its military operations
- There is no basis for negotiations at this time
Present Situation
Russia is currently dealing with the invasion by Ukraine that began on August 6. At the same time, Russia is also moving forward with its attack in the Donetsk area of eastern Ukraine.
Support for Peaceful Settlement
Peskov said that Russia agrees with India that the problem should be solved peacefully. He made it clear, though, that peace talks are not possible right now.
