Zelenskyy meets Meloni On Saturday, during the European House-Ambrette conference in northern Italy, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine met with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy. Zelenskyy is talking with people to get more weapons for Ukraine to defend itself against Russia.
On Friday, Zelenskyy spoke at the meeting, and Meloni was supposed to talk on Saturday. Italy has been a big backer of Ukraine and has given them weapons to help them fight off Russian troops. Italy, on the other hand, has always said that these weapons should only be used in Ukraine.
While in Germany, Zelenskyy talked with friends at the US Ramstein Air Base before going to Italy. At that meeting, Washington promised Ukraine an extra $250 million in defense help. The Ukrainian president also talked with Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany.
These talks are happening at a very important time. In the Donbas area in eastern Ukraine, Russian troops are still moving forward. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that taking over Donbas is now his main goal. The war is now in its third year, and there is no sign of an end in sight.
Viktor Orban, the prime minister of Hungary, met with Putin in Moscow earlier in July. He was also at the meeting in Italy. Other leaders in the European Union are angry that Orban has called for a pause. Zelenskyy flatly turned down Orban’s requests, saying that Putin has never kept promises.
Ukraine is still counting on the help of its friends. Since Russia is still making progress, Zelenskyy is determined to get more military assistance for his country so that it can protect itself from danger.
